Rumble on the River July 27th 2006
In only it’s second year, the Rumble on the River has already become an “institution” for down town New Yorkers. On Thursday July 27th, the second event of the two event series took place on the Hudson River Park’s Pier 54.
With well over 2,000 people in attendance, the energy level was high. Despite a forecast threatening a 60% chance of showers, the crowd and the boxers came out in force. With reports of rain to the North, South, East and West, it seemed as though possibly even mother nature was curious to see a couple of boxing matches.
In addition to the great matches, the Scion ½ time show featuring the Soul Mafia wowed the crowd. Rapping, Singing and a Saxophone solo managed to keep the crowd just as interested in their act as the boxing matches before and afterwards.
With 7 exciting bouts in the books, the 8th bout began as it started to drizzle. While the very light rain wasn’t enough to stop the event, with the threat of lightening the event organizers and USA Boxing officials felt that it was better to be safe than sorry.
And, while the last two bouts were called off, not a person there would complain that the evening was not complete. With the lights of the Empire State Building light up in Red and Green and the weather cooperating long enough, it truly was X-Mas in July for New York’s fight fans!
