Welocme to Friday Night Fights

May 2nd, 2008 FNF Event Summary

The third installment of the 2008 Friday Night Fights NYC Series took place in the cavernous 26th Street Armory. A record breaking crowd came out to take in the card consisting of 9 bouts.

To say that the space was dramatic would be an understatement. After waiting on a line that went around the block up to Park Avenue, everyone entering the space marveled at the size and scale of the space and the event. The DJ and his tunes descended upon the crowd from the mezzanine above and while there was huge crowd, everyone had a little more space that they were accustomed to at the FNFNYC events.

When FNFNYC Ring Announcer Diamond Dave introduced the first bout of the evening, the sound of his voice echoing off of the ceilings 100 feet above resonated throughout the crowd bringing the energy to full blown frenzy.

As promised, the card featured fighters that had been in previous FNFNYC events and had been awarded the Best Fight of the Night Trophy. These included Eric Utsch, Milton Clark, Jean Hackett, Pat Yee, Ognjen Topic and Lasheem Richardson to name a few.

Eric Utsch and Ben Case thrilled the crowd with an even pitched battle which made choosing the victor difficult. Utsch, a regular on the FNFNYC events clearly had his hands full with Case and while Utsch took the (controversial) decision it was definitely his hardest earned win to date.

In what was awarded the best fight of the night, Ognjen Topic and Omar Ahmed both let it all hang out. Ognjen, also a regular on the FNFNYC events has earned a reputation as an excellent technician with impressive speed and power

By the time the action was complete it was clear to everyone that the May 2nd event marked a new era for the Friday Night Fights NYC Series and that the Armory would be the newest addition to the ever growing FNFNYC venue roster.

While the action continues on May 30th when we return to the Hall at St. Paul the Apostle the Big One returns this Fall. Stay tuned for more information on our schedule page.
