Welocme to Friday Night Fights

Hands down, the greatest show ever held at the Hall at St. Paul's. A maximum capacity crowd brought a great energy with them as 13 exciting bouts kept the crowd intrigued throughout the evening. March 20th was also the first day of spring and it seemed as though our audience was in full bloom as more than 300 people were turned away at the door for this eagerly anticipated card of Muay Thai took place.

Several of the bouts were noteworthy however it was a hard decision for the best fight of the night. Patrick Yee (Sitan Gym, Astoria NY) and Tony Manohoran (M1 Gym, Toronto) had a hard fought draw and Florina Petcu's close decision against Toronto's Ashley Nichols were both extremely entertaining however..Omar Ahmed's (Sitan Gym, Astoria, NY) close win over Dan Ash (San Jose, CA) that ended up taking the "best fight of the night" award. This came to no surprise to those at ringside as both of these fighters have previously won this distinction and everyone expected fireworks when these two entered the ring.

The Ahmed vs. Ash match was the co-main event and was a hard act to follow up for the evening's main event which would pit Liam Tarrant against Marcus Fisher for Fisher's WKA North American Light Middle Weight title. These two met in the October FNF tournament for the same title and this would be Fisher's first defense of that belt. Fisher also brought Liam his first defeat of his amateur career and Tarrant entered the ring as an underdog for the first time this time against the much bigger Fisher. The first round of the bout was extremely close with both men balancing aggression with effective shots. Tarrant defended against the clinch much better this time around though. In the early part of the 2nd round Fisher landed a combination that sent Tarrant into the ropes and seemingly put him on the defense. Then, faster than just about anyone could have imagined - Tarrant through a quick, perfectly timed left hook that landed squarely on Fisher's chin as he came in. The punch sent the champion to the canvas and while he got back to his feet, referee Fred Corritone would not let the wobbled Fisher continue.
