January 16th, 2009 FNF Event Summary
The sub-zero degree temperatures didn't slow this crowd down for the FNFNYC 2009 Season Opener. Over 1,300 eager fans braved the cold to take in yet another night of the fights and nobody went home disappointed.
With 8 Muay Thai bouts and 2 boxing matches the audience was treated to some of the best local fighters. While most of spent the holidays eating and drinking too much, these dedicated fighters were hard at work preparing for this event.
2008 Fighter of the year Ognjen Topic was in the match titled "Best Fight of the Night" when he fought for a majority draw against California's Dan Ash.
Additional highlights include Chris Romulo's rematch against Jay Ellis. When these two met in September of last year it was 1 round of fireworks. When Romulo's originally scheduled opponent, James Pruitt, pulled out 2 days before the fight Jay Ellis jumped at the chance to rematch Romulo. The fight lived up to our hopes as once again the two fighters slugged it out. Ellis stunned Romulo with a punch during a clinch but Romulo returned fire and Ellis was injured on his trip to the canvas. Although Ellis was ok, he was unable to continue.
