Welocme to Friday Night Fights

December 7th 2007 Friday Night Fights

We aren’t quite sure what it is that makes our end of year shows such a hit but this year’s December show was a smash once again. Over 1,200 people braved the bitter cold rain to witness what many referred to as the best night of matches we have held to date. The line started at 6pm and our staff managed to organize everything in time to open the doors 15 minutes early and get the card consisting of 8 boxing matches and 4 Muay Thai matches started on time.

In the past, choosing the Best Fight of the Night was never a hard choice however, as so many of the matches were evenly matched and competitive, no match was a “slam dunk” for the award. In the end it came down to the Topic vs. Mickens match or the Tim Turner vs. Raul Nuncio boxing match. Both fights were competitive, exciting, action packed bouts that were loaded with drama.

The Mickens / Topic match had two very technical fighters standing toe to toe through out the match. Mickens was dropped in the 1st round and although the crowd felt he was a bit shaky on his feet, he managed to stage an incredible comeback in the 2nd and 3rd rounds. Both fighters gave as good as they got and it was one of the matches where nobody wants to see anyone lose. Topic took the decision 26-30 although the score didn’t accurately represent how even the match really was. This is only the second time in the history of the Friday Night Fights NYC Series that a fighter has been awarded the “Best Fight of the Night” back to back.

Tim Turner and Raul Nuncio faced off in an epic open class super middleweight battle. The fact that Nuncio is the 2007 Golden Gloves Champion didn’t deter Turner. Turner kept the pressure on Nuncio throughout the match and the two boxers both refused to take a step backwards during the entire 4 round bout. Nuncio fought like the champion that he is however Turner’s onslaught was too much for him and it was Turner that was victor that night.

With the next show already scheduled for January 11th the wait for the 2008 series will be an easy one for our fans.
