It’s official, we’re on the radar!

A packed house came out for the October 26th Friday Night Fights NYC event. This was the 5th installment in the 6 event 2007 series. It had been over two and a half months since our last event (8/10) and after a busy summer (4 events) it was a welcome break for our busy staff.

Although it was pouring outside, it didn’t seem to stop the capacity crowd from coming out to another night at the fights. An audience of nearly 1,400 stayed for the entire card featuring11 bouts – 5 Muay Thai and 6 Amateur Boxing matches with competitors from the 5 boroughs and beyond.

The best fight of the night was awarded to Muay Thai match Onjen Topic vs. Jay Mateas. Topic is a regular on the Friday Night Fights NYC Series and met his toughest challenge yet against the game and aggressive Mateas. Although it was the closest decision yet for Topic, he managed to add another win to his record.

Another noteworthy match was an amateur boxing match featuring Jean Hackett and Lasheem Richardson. The first time these two had met Hackett had taken the decision. Richardson made sure that this time it wouldn’t be repeated. The match between the two fighters was close with Hackett boxing as Richardson pressed the action. The fight was decided in the 3rd round as Richardson’s assault on Hackett began to show its effects. Hackett hung in there however by the time the final bell rang it was clear that Richardson was going was victorious. For Richardson it was a particularly special win as he improved his record to 4 wins & 5 losses. Richardson has won his last three in a row improving his record from 1 wind and 5 losses.

This past event was the 2nd to last event of the 2007 series and was a great preamble to the “big” show on December 7th.
