October 24th, 2008 FNF Event Summary
The October 24th event was by far one of the most dramatic events in the long history of the series. 8 of the top light middle weights from across the US and Canada came together to compete for the vacant WKA North American Light Middle Weight Title.
Each fighter had good reason to believe that he had a good chance to win the tournament as every competitor was a strong fighter with solid skills. Knowing that they would be competing three times in one night seemed to bring out the best in each fighter in their training, competition and sportsmanship.
The Broad Street Ballroom was the perfect place to put on such an event. Nobody in the standing room only crowd was ever more than 30 feet away from the ring. Everyone in the audience experienced the event with the fighters - from the look on the fighter's faces when they drew their berths in the tournament to the thrill or agony of each bout result, to the excitement of Marcus Fisher winning the title after fighting three times in one night!
The fact that neither of the two finalists were from the area and not known to most people in the audience didn't seem to matter as everyone stuck around until the final bout and cheered both of these fighters on. Everyone knew that both Sacha Hijazi (Ottawa, Canada) and Marcus Fisher (Pittsburgh, PA) were exhausted going into the final bout and that the fighter's and audience's adrenaline would keep them going. In the end it was Fisher that did enough to win the bout, the tournament and the title.
The evening also featured two non-tournament bouts: Abe Estacio vs Ogjen Topic & Andrew Moy vs Patrick Yee. Both bouts were exciting and the Topic bout was crowned "Best Fight of the Night". This was only the second time in FNF history that a fighter was back to back bouts that earned this title. Topic's fight against Kittisak in September just 4 weeks earlier also earned this title.
