Rumble on the River June 21st 2007
Although the third year of the Rumble on the River Series kicked off on June 21st at a brand new location, it was familiar territory for New York’s newest fight series. In previous years the “Rumble” was held on Pier 54 in the Meat Packing District however after two great years, the Hudson River Park decided to give the Rumble on the River Marquee placement at their newly renovated Pier 84.
While the Pier was new, everyone knew what to expect. With great matches planned for the event the crowd eagerly anticipated a great night of fights. With a great crowd on hand, the sun set reflecting off of the water and the Manhattan skyline in the background, the boxers were excited to strut their stuff on such a great night.
While there were over 10 bouts scheduled, it seemed as though Mother Nature had no interest in the fights this night. It had rained both before the start time and an hour after the event began allowing just 4 bouts to be completed before the night was called early.
With 4 fights in the books and the 5th bout under way, the crowd braved the strong winds and shower before the 5th bout was called off.
And while the crowd had left wanting more……nobody would disagree that a “dose” of the Rumble on the River would be enough to get everyone through to the next event on July 26th.
